Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – The Smithtown Central School District Board of Education has reduced the time a community member can speak during meetings, according to a report by Smithtown Patch.

Under a new policy, a community member may only speak for three minutes. Previously, the limit was five minutes.

The policy was approved by a vote of 4-3, according to the report.

Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) - A 15-year-old Smithtown West student is going public with claims the school district mishandled an alleged assault.

Gabrielle Petagna says she was attacked by an estranged friend in the high school bathroom on December 7. She addressed the Smithtown Central School District Board of Education about her claims Tuesday.

The victim’s family says the school failed to call police or an ambulance after the attack. However, Suffolk County police told Newsday they were notified immediately after the incident.

Smithtown schools superintendent Ed Ehmann could not provide specifics regarding the incident because of student privacy laws but says disciplinary actions have been taken against the seven students involved.

Suffolk County Legislator Lynne C. Nowick will once again being chairing a county parks and recreation committee. This will be the third year in a row the 13th district representative has lead the committee.

With a brand new wife, and a brand new album, James Durbin is having great success in 2012!

I was fortunate enough to meet and interview James at The Voice studios in Atlanta, Georgia over the holidays.  What an amazing talent! James has overcome so much. Diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome and Asperger’s Syndrome, he is the perfect role model for patients at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  Durbin has followed his dreams and has an exciting career ahead of him! He talked about his time on American Idol and all about his wedding during our interview. He even demonstrated his victory dance and did some Lord of the Rings impressions for patients!

Nets fall on the road to the Denver Nuggets in a high scoring contest, 123-115. Anthony Morrow scored 23 points but he was not the team’s leading scorer. That would be Jordan Farmar who had a big game off the bench with 26 points and 3 assists.

Zach Parise scores a game winner for the Devils in overtime as they beat the Edmonton Oilers 2-1.

The Rangers are back in action at home tonight against the Ottawa Senators. They currently have the best record in the NHL and are off to their best start since the 1993-1994 Stanley Cup-winning season. Faceoff is at 7 on MSG2. The Islanders will also play at home tonight. They will take on Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers at 7 on MSG Plus.
