About James

James Brierton co-founded what is now SmithtownRadio.com in 2003. Brierton serves as the station's General Manager and oversees all station operations including on-air programming, underwrites and community outreach.

Brierton can be heard daily deejaying and anchoring the station's news updates.

In 2009, Brierton began an academic career in Athens, Georgia where he began to study journalism at the University of Georgia. He currently serves as the Senior Production Manager at "UGA NewSource," the daily, live, student-produced newscast of the Grady School of Journalism and Communication. In 2011, Brierton was awarded the "John Holliman, Jr. Scholarship" by the faculty of the Digital and Broadcast News program at Grady for his dedication and efforts at "UGA NewSource."

Brierton is an active contributor to CNN's iReport program, in which he interned for in 2008. He remains active with the CNN community.

His radio career includes producing online news coverage for Long Island's WALK Radio, where he also works as a promotions and program assistant. He served as Operations Director for WUOG-FM in 2009.

In 2008, Brierton was awarded the News 12 Long Island Hank Logeman High School Journalism Award for excellence and achievement by a high school journalism student. In addition to co-founding SmithtownRadio.com, Brierton also served as the editor-in-chief and Web master of his high school newspaper.
