Smithtown, Hauppauge, Kings Park, Commack announce closures

Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – All of the public schools in the greater-Smithtown area have announced closures for the remainder of the week following the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Smithtown, Kings Park and Commack schools have announced closures for both Thursday and Friday. SmithtownRadio.com has been able to confirm a closure in Hauppauge for at least Thursday.

Islandwide closures also include Hofstra University and Suffolk County Community College.

Islandwide Closures: WALK Storm Center

Park View Elementary School in Kings Park will remain closed while crews work on the roof, which was severely damaged during Monday’s hurricane. There will be a meeting for parents Thursday, at 4p.m. at the high school to discuss repairs and classes.

School officials have kept classes cancelled due to a lack of power and debris in area roadways.
