Suffolk County Health: Sample taken earlier this month
Nesconset, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A mosquito tested for West Nile virus in Nesconset has tested positive, according to results released by the Suffolk County Department of Health Friday.
The bug was collected along with a string of tests on September 6 and 7. Bugs from Amagansett, East Northport, Ridge, Manorville, Selden and Southold also tested positive in this round of testing. To date this year, 208 mosquito samples and a total of 38 birds have tested positive for the virus.
Two human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Suffolk County this year, according to the county agency. Both persons were treated and released from area hospitals.
