Hauppauge, Commack, East Islip schools on-alert

Hauppauge, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Area school districts are on-alert after a suspicious man tried to pick up a mystery girl at schools in Hauppauge and East Islip Friday. School officials say they have no record of the girl.

The man, who identified himself to school officials as Abraham Lincoln, visited Hauppauge Middle School Friday morning to pick-up Reanna Belongi, who he identified as his daughter, Hauppauge Public Schools Superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss says in a letter to parents. When he was told his daughter did not attend the school he drove off in a light colored 4-door sedan.

The man, who is described only as being African-American, then visited a school in East Islip and again asked for Belongi. He left when school officials found no record of the girl.

In a letter sent home to parents, Sullivan-Kriss reassurances parents the school district is adding extra security to protect students.  As a pre-caution, Commack School District Superintendent Dr. Donald James also sent a letter home to parents to inform them about the incident. James says the man did not visit Commack schools and there is no record of the girl in their schools. Both superintendents are asking parents to talk with their children about strangers.

When contacted by SmithtownRadio.com, a spokesperson for the Suffolk County Police said he could not comment on the school visits because they are being investigated as domestic incidents.
