Shirley, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County police Wednesday arrested a former director of a Lindenhurst-based community theater group for possessing child pornography.
Detectives from the Computer Crimes Unit were assisting the Suffolk County Probation Department with the analysis of Vincent Sparagano’s cellular telephone and computer as part of the conditions of his probation, police say. During the course of the analysis, images of child pornography were found on his computer.
Sparagano, who is a former director of productions for the Lindenhurst-based Spotlight Players, surrendered to Computer Crimes detectives at the Seventh Precinct at 9:30 a.m. and was charged with one count of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child.
Sparagano is on probation after being convicted of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in Nassau County. In that incident, Sparagano sent multiple messages containing suggestive and inappropriate comments to a 14-year-old who was part of the theater group, Suffolk police say.
Sparagano, 42, of Lindenhurst, will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 6.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call the Computer Crimes Unit at 631-852-6279.
