Christine Georghakis used a key to access apartment, steal items, police say
The current tenant, whose name was not released, called police Saturday after noticing cash and jewelry had been taken from her basement apartment, located at 12 Johnson Street in Commack. Responding officers noticed there was no apparent forced entry.
Fourth Squad detectives interviewed the victim and spoke with the homeowner, Christine Georghakis, 45, who lives in the home above the apartment. Georghakis, who also uses the last name Matarazzo, admitted to detectives that she had used her key to gain entry into her tenant’s apartment and stole cash and jewelry that belonged to the victim.
Detectives arrested Georghakis and charged her with second degree Burglary. She was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip and is being held on $5,000 bond.
Detectives ask previous tenants that believe their residence may have been burglarized by Georghakis or anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8552.
