Drunk driver’s vehicle was traveling on metal rim instead of tire

Commack, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk police have arrested a woman for driving a vehicle in Commack without a tire Friday night.

Fourth Precinct Patrol Sergeant Jay Veronko was on patrol near Commack Road at Motor Parkway when he heard a loud noise coming from a 2004 Honda, being driven by Mary L. Kimbrough, police say. Officer Veronko pulled the vehicle over and observed the car was missing a tire and traveling on a metal rim. Officer Veronko determined Kimbrough was driving while intoxicated and placed her under arrest.

Two children, ages 9- and 11-years-old, were riding in the back of the Honda and were using a cell phone to call relatives for help before the officer pulled the vehicle over. The two children, who were not identified and were uninjured, were released into the custody of a family member.

Kimbrough, 64, of Wyandanch, was charged with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated With a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and one count of Driving While Intoxicated. Police say Kimbrough had been previously charged with driving while intoxicated in 2009.

Kimbrough was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Saturday.
