Man walking along Railroad Ave struck by car

St. James, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A man struck while walking along a St. James street Monday night has succumbed to his injuries.

Around 8:20 p.m., Kyle Stevenson was driving his 2003 Honda Civic eastbound on Railroad Avenue near First Street when he struck a male pedestrian walking along the roadway shoulder with a shopping cart, police say.

The pedestrian was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries around 2 a.m. His name is being withheld pending confirmation of his identity and notification of family. Stevenson, 18, of St. James, was not injured.

Stevenson’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
