Kings Park, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) -With the swing of an excavator, bricks from a dining hall at the first to fall during the long-awaited demolition of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center.
Indiana-based National Salvage and Service Corporation began the $6.4 million project Monday with the demolition of Building 123, a 20,000-square-foot brick kitchen and dining hall with a collapsed roof. The building is the first of 15 slated for destruction during the first phase of demolition.
“The start of work on project is great news for the Kings Park community and for all Long Islanders. It is encouraging to see the cleanup begin at this location after years of planning,” says New York State Sentator John Flanagan, who secured $25 million for the project. “I look forward to continuing to work with State Parks to utilize the remaining funds in the best possible way and am excited about the great promise this property holds for the people of Kings Park.”
