Lake Ronkonkoma, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Two Suffolk County Police officers saved a woman who overdosed on heroin inside a parked car Sunday afternoon.

Fourth Precinct police officers responded to the parking lot of Carvel, located at 290 Ronkonkoma Ave. in Ronkonkoma, on at 1:20 p.m. after a 911 caller reported a woman was overdosing on heroin in a parked car. When officers arrived they found a 21-year-old female unresponsive and barely breathing. Police Officer Thomas Speciale revived the victim by administering intranasal Narcan into the nose of the victim while Police Officer David Ferrara provided additional medical care.

The woman was transported by Ronkonkoma Rescue to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment.

The Suffolk County Police Department recently began participating in a New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of intranasal Narcan. Currently, the Fourth, Sixth and Seventh Precincts and Marine Bureau are participating in this program.
