Coram, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police arrested a Coram man for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene after his vehicle struck a bicyclist in Coram early Saturday morning.

Lonnie Lewis was riding his bicycle westbound on the right hand shoulder of Route 25 near Fife Drive in Coram when he was struck by a 2008 Toyota Corolla at 3:15 a.m. The driver, Rimida Panzer, fled the scene and was arrested a short time later approximately a mile away from the crash, police say.

Lewis, 59, of Coram, was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Panzer, 24, of Coram, was not injured.

Sixth Squad detectives charged Panzer with Driving While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene of an Incident without Reporting. He will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip.
