Morning News Update

Nesconset’s own Maria Michta is off to London today. The Sachem High School grad will march in front of a cheering crowd Friday during the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic games. But last night she was in a hometown crowd. Suffolk County Legislator John M. Kennedy Jr. and Nesconset Chamber of Commerce presented Michta with a check for two thousands dollars. The money will be used to help cover the travel costs of her family – which will head to London in August to watch her compete in the racewalking event. We caught up with Michta and we’ll have the video for you later today on SmithtownRadio.com.

After seven-month, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has decided to appoint the police department acting-commissioner as the departments actual commissioner. Newsday reports Bellone is expected to announce Edward Webber as commissioner later today.
