Brentwood, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Two adults and an infant were injured Thursday evening after their car went airborne and landed upside down outside a Brentwood 7-Eleven store.
The driver lost control of a vehicle along the Long Island Expressway service road around 8:30 p.m., authorities say. The car left the roadway, flying over an entrance ramp, before smashing the rear roof of the building. The car ultimately landed up-side down just feet away from the store.
The male driver and pregnant female passenger were alert and speaking as emergency crews arrived on scene, witnesses tell SmithtownRadio.com.
Ruth Martinez, whose brother used to own the property, says they have seen crashes like this before. Since 1999, two other cars have left the roadway and struck the building, recalls Martinez, who wishes to see the roadway redesigned. Her brother sold the land shortly before a gas leak destroyed the previous shop in 2006.
The identities and conditions of the three injuries Thursday was not immediately available.
