North Bellport, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police arrested a Patchogue man for burglarizing a grocery store in North Bellport after he was located on the roof of the building early Friday morning.

Fifth Precinct Police Officer William Boyd was on patrol at 3 a.m. when he noticed a ladder against the wall at Columbus Grocery, located at 1387 Montauk Highway, police say. Upon closer observation, Boyd observed a man on the roof. The man jumped off the roof and ran northbound through residential yards.

Canine Section Officer Ryan Neems and his canine Bear responded and located Javon Brown in the area of Narragansett Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in North Bellport.

Brown, 21, of Patchogue, was arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree. Fifth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and believe at least one other person is responsible for the burglary.
