Town Board officials are going to implement new building safety guidelines in a series of inspections on abandoned buildings in the community. Although specific dates for the inspections have not been revealed, officials indicate growing concerns from the community initiated the change. The new guidelines will be used to inspect 21 buildings seen as potential hazards.

Smithtown area firefighters including those from the Nesconset Fire Department were called to Central Islip last night to help fight a fire at a condo apartment complex. Newsday reports two Central Islip firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
