Town Board officials are going to implement new building safety guidelines in a series of inspections on abandoned buildings in the community. Although specific dates for the inspections have not been revealed, officials indicate growing concerns from the community initiated the change. The new guidelines will be used to inspect 21 buildings seen as potential hazards.

A 40-year-old Smithtown died yesterday morning after being ejected from his motorcycle along Landing Avenue. Police say another vehicle turned in front of the bike just after 8 a.m. No charges have been released and witnesses are asked to cal l investigators.
