Charted helicopters flying over the North Shore is soon going to be a thing of the past. Standing outside a Smithtown home Monday, New York Senator Charles Schumer announced a new, 2-year FAA rule regulating helicopter traffic over the island’s North Shore will take effect in early August. The move comes after years of pressure from Schumer and concerned residents about noise pollution caused by the helicopters.

One car was destroyed and two others damaged after a fire broke out in the parking lot of Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park yesterday. Newsday reports the fire started in the parking lot and was extinguished by the Kings Park Fire Department. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. No one was injured in the blaze.
