East Islip, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) - Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the death of an East Islip toddler who drowned in a pool Wednesday afternoon.
Third Precinct officers were called to 26 Laurel Ave. at 12:39 p.m. after Byron McArthur, 21-months old, was discovered by a family member at the bottom of a backyard swimming pool. When police arrived, the child’s mother was administering CPR to the boy.
McArthur entered the above-ground pool by climbing a ladder, police say.
McArthur was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation is continuing.
