East Moriches, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Police have a arrested an East Moriches man for possessing the ingredients to make his own fireworks.

Seventh Precinct police officers responded to a call at 11 Woodcrest Drive after the homeowners discovered that their son, Ronald Walker, 34, was storing dangerous chemicals in their garage. Police officers found several marked containers of household chemicals that could be used to manufacture fireworks. They also found non-chemical components of homemade fireworks.

Police officers from Emergency Services were called to the scene to remove the materials. Officers used special equipment to stabilize some of the most dangerous chemicals, police say.

Seventh Squad detectives located Walker in Greenport and arrested him. He is charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and is being held at the Seventh Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 4.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
