West Islip, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found on the street in West Islip early Monday morning.

Third Precinct police officers responded to Sandra Avenue after a 911 caller reported a man lying in the street at approximately 12 a.m. The man, Jason Nelson, 26, of Brightwaters, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation indicates Nelson may be the victim of a hit and run. Detectives are asking anyone with information on Nelson’s death to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
