Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – With the temperature outside feeling as if it was over 100 degrees Friday, the National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Heat Advisory for parts of the tri-state area including the greater Smithtown area.

At 3 p.m., the actual temperature was 93 degrees at Islip MacArthur Airport, the official weather observation station for Smithtown. However, after factoring in humidity, the temperatures felt more like 101 degrees.

The National Weather Service issues such an advisory any time temperatures and humdity combine to make the weather feel as if it’s at least 100 degrees for two consecutive hours.

Despite forecasted temperatures climbing back into the lower 90s Saturday and Sunday, the Heat Advisory runs through 7 p.m. Friday. The weather outside is expected to feel slightly cooler this weekend.
