Morning News Update

Good morning. I’m James Brierton. It’s Friday, June 29th.

A Smithtown man is in critical condition at Stony Brook accident after a motorcycle accident in East Northport yesterday afternoon. Police say 54-year-old Stephen Peragine was riding on Daly Road when he lost control and struck a tree. He was airlifted to the hospital. The investigation continues and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call detectives at 631-854-8252.

Smithtown school officials seemed cautiously optimistic that funding could return to the district’s music program some day. During a Board of Education meeting Tuesday, the president of the Smithtown Friends of Music organization requested the board’s help is returning money to the budget-cut department. Superintendent of Schools Ed Ehmann says the district will review the budget once more before the end of the summer to locate any surplus funds but cannot guarantee anything.
