New tonight: A Smithtown man is in critical condition at Stony Brook accident after a motorcycle accident in East Northport this afternoon. Police say 54-year-old Stephen Peragine was riding on Daly Road just before 3 p.m. when he lost control and struck a tree. He was airlifted to the hospital. The investigation continues and anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call detectives at 631-854-8252.
A historic day today as the U.S. Supreme Court upholds President Barack Obama’s healthcare bill. The 5-4 ruling allows the government to continue implementing the healthcare plan, which will take full effect in 2014. Under it everyone must either have healthcare or pay a penalty. Medical insurancers are now also barred from denying coverage for pre-exiting conditions. Parents are also allowed to keep their children on family policies until the age of 26.
