Amityville, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A Massapequa dad has been arrested after driving drunk and allowing his kids to ride in the bed of his pickup truck.
Amityville Police Officer Justin McElmoyl was on routine patrol when he observed a 1996 Dodge Dakota pickup truck traveling northbound on Broadway in Amityville with two small children riding in the bed of the truck. Officer McElmoyl conducted a traffic stop and determined that the driver of the truck, Carlos Rivera, 33, was under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest.
The children in the bed of the truck were identified as Rivera’s 7 and 13-year-old sons.
Rivera was transported to the First Precinct of the Suffolk County Police Department and was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Rivera is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Monday.
The case is being handled by the First Squad and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident and has not been interviewed to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
