Bellport, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A Mastic man has been arrested for drug possession after he lead police on a wild ride through Bellport Thursday.
Detectives observed Harrie Shorter, 37, driving a 2001 Cadillac without a valid license on Bellport Avenue around 3:45 p.m.. When detectives attempted to pull Shorter over near the intersection of Brookhaven Avenue he drove away at an extremely high rate of speed and disregarded stop signs, police say. Shorter also passed a school bus stopped on the side of the road and drove recklessly past several children.
Shorter was arrested a brief time later at a residence on Bellport Avenue and Hampton Avenue in Bellport. A large quantity of Crack Cocaine was found inside his vehicle and seized.
Fifth Squad detectives charged Shorter with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of Marijuana 5th Degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree and numerous traffic violations.
Shorter is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 15.
