East Patchogue, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in East Patchogue Monday evening.

At 10 p.m., Marie Volpe, 20, of Center Moriches, was operating a 1998 Ford Explorer eastbound in the left lane of Montauk Highway near Sills Road when her vehicle collided with a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle traveling westbound.

The motorcyclist, Elliot B. Smith, 42, of North Babylon, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Volpe was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
