Police release surveillance images of theft in progress

Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk county police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man seen stealing an off-road, recreational vehicle from a Smithtown home Monday.

Around 8:45 p.m., the man walked up the driveway of a home on White Spruce Circle and rolled the ATV down to the street, police say. He then loaded it into an awaiting vehicle.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned man with short black hair. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt and baggy jeans. The vehicle was a 1995-1999 dark-colored GMC Jimmy or Chevy S10 Blazer with no hub caps.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Police did not provide the address of the home.

My son is autistic and his was stolen last year.  cops came to the house took a report, never heard from them again.  And my son is out his ATV.  So Not nice, and very difficult to explain to an autistic child, that so enjoyed riding his ATV around the yard.
