Afternoon News Update

Kings Park residents spoke out against local industries at last night’s meeting of the Smithtown Planning Board.
Residents have been complaining of pungent odors and other inconviniences caused by local industries, some of which are built on land zoned for residential use.
One proposal looks to zone 100 industrial acres to prevent businesses from violating zoning regulations while another looks to add 270 for small industries.
Only one had time to be heard last night as the meeting adjourned late. The other will be discussed September 5th.

High bacteria levels have caused the Town of Islip to shut down Lake Ronkonkoma Beach.
A sample taken Monday shows high levels of the bacteria E. Coli, according to the Suffolk County Department of Health.
The waters will be reopened to swimmers once levels return to normal.
