Morning Edition:
Miley Cyrus announced her engagement yesterday to longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. The former Disney star and her boyfriend have been dating for nearly three years. Cyrus told People magazine, “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam.” No wedding date has been set yet, but the couple have been engaged for almost a week, with Hemsworth proposing back on May 31st. The duo met back in 2009 when they costarred in The Last Song.
Ray Bradbury, the legendary author of Fahrenheit 451, died Tuesday night at the age of 91. Bradbury became one of the most famous science fiction authors, also writing The Martian Chronicles and several tales that were the basis for some of the first alien movies in Hollywood. Bradbury was born back in 1920 in Illinois before his family moved Los Angeles. Bradbury has also been credited with being a screenwriter on the 1956 version of Moby Dick.
Evening Edition:
The CMT Music Awards were held last night, and Carrie Underwood took the top honor of Video of the Year for “Good Girl”. Underwood was also the only double winner of the night, also taking home Collaborative Video of the Year with Brad Paisley for “Remind Me”. Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert took home Male and Female Video of the Year, while Lady Antebellum took home Group Video of the Year for “We Owned the Night”. Last year’s American Idol winner, Scotty McCreery, took home USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year for his song “The Trouble With Girls”.
Showtime’s hit show Homeland has grabbed the most TCA nominations this year with four, including Individual Achievement in Drama for Claire Danes. Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad each came in with three. Given out every year by the Television Critics Association, the TCA Awards will be given out at a private ceremony on July 28th.
