Food drive from your own mailbox

Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) - The nation’s largest one-day food collection is Saturday.

New York State Senator John Flanagan is encouraging residents to leave canned food items and other nonperishables in their mailboxes. Postmen will collect the items as they make their normal rounds.

“Over the years, this annual event has provided so much for those in our community who are in need,” Flanagan says in a news release.

While most post offices are participating in the program, residents are urged to check with their personal mail carrier.  Residents can also visit www.helpstampouthunger.com or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/stampouthunger for more information on this program.
