Mastic, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A good Samaritan and police officers performed CPR and used a defibrillator to save a 10-year-old girl’s life in Mastic Wednesday.

Shawn Mitchell, of Ridge, was performing CPR on Alana Kiceina when officers arrived on Abbot Avenue around 4:40 p.m. Officers continued CPR while one used a defibrillator to restart the girl’s heart.

Manorville Community Ambulance continued treatment on the girl as they and transported her to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. She was later transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where she is in stable condition and breathing on her own. She is expected to survive.

Suffolk police, who have closed their investigation, say it was not determined what caused Kiceina to lose consciousness.
