Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A developing low pressure system could bring us much needed rain.

The National Weather Service says one to two inches of rain could fall Sunday night through Monday. Total rain accumulations of three to four inches can not be ruled out in some locations.

Earlier this month, a drought update from the National Weather Service reported Long Island was four to six inches behind historical averages.

The lack of rain – and absence of melting snow – has left area landscapes dry and favorable to brush fire development.
