Smithtown, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A Smithtown gas station is charging just shy of $6 a gallon for regular gas when customers fill up with a credit card.
The Mobil station, located at Jericho Turnpike and Old Willet’s Path, grabbed headlines Thursday morning when it introduced a $2 difference between cash and credit purchases. When SmithtownRadio.com’s Andrew Natoli visited the station to get his own photo he found the station had upped the price from $5.59 to $5.99 a gallon for regular gas when using a credit card.
Gas stations are allowed to provide discounts to customers making purchases with cash but it is illegal for them to charge extra for credit card purchases.
Your Thought: Does it serve any practical purpose for a station to charge $2 more for credit card purchases?
