Customer prevented a Bay Shore woman from fleeing after demanding money from a Chase Bank in Deer Park Tuesday.
Deer Park, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police arrested a Bay Shore woman during the commission of a bank robbery in Deer Park yesterday.
Jean Coughlin, 45, entered the Chase Bank, located at 615 Grand Blvd., at 3:22 p.m. and handed the bank teller a handwritten note demanding cash and threatening violence. The teller complied with Coughlin’s demands and gave her cash from her drawer. As Coughlin attempted to leave the bank with the cash proceeds, a bank customer, who was watching the robbery transpire, prevented Coughlin from leaving the bank by detaining her until the police arrived.
Suffolk County First Precinct Patrol Officers placed Coughlin under arrest. Major Case Investigations Unit charged Coughlin with one count of Robbery 3rd Degree in connection with today’s robbery. Her getaway driver, Jesse Stewart, 37, was later located and arrested by a Third Precinct Patrol Officer. Stewart, of 2 Alders Gate, Riverhead, was also charged with one count of Robbery 3rd Degree.
Coughlin, of 1F Hemlock Drive in Bay Shore, was subsequently charged with two more counts of Robbery 3rd Degree for two other bank robberies she committed in Suffolk County this year.
Coughlin is being held at the Fourth Precinct in Hauppauge and Stewart is being held at the Seventh Precinct in Shirley overnight. The two will be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
