Long Island Expressway reopened after crash

Commack, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – A motorist stranded after his car ran out of gas on the Long Island Expressway in Commack was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Saturday evening.

Police say Aaron Thomas left his car parked near the entrance ramp between the Expressway and Commack Road and was returning to it with gas around 8 p.m. when he was struck by Kelly Hinlicky. Hinlicky, 24, of Amityville, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet that was entering the Expressway on the ramp.

Thomas, 19, also of Amityville, was transported to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.

The roadway has been reopened.
