Morning Edition:

Matt Bomer, the star of USA Network’s White Collar, officially came out as a gay man over the weekend at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards. Bomer received the New Generation and Activism Award for his activism in the fight against HIV/AIDS at the awards show, and paid tribute to his partner, Hollywood publicist Simon Halls, and their three children in his acceptance speech. He said onstage, “I’d really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry. Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.” Bomer was questioned about his sexuality back in 2010 in an interview with Details magazine, and Bomer responded, “I don’t care about rumors at all. I’m completely happy and fulfilled in my personal life.”

Hugh Hefner’s son Marston was arrested Sunday night for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Playboy Playmate Claire Sinclair. The police were called to the couple’s home in Pasadena after receiving a domestic-violence call. Sinclair suffered minor injuries, according to police, and Hefner was taken into custody without incident. Hefner was charged with battery on a spouse and released a few hours after posting a $20,000 bail. Sinclair took to Twitter to thank supporters, saying “There’s two types of pain in the world – pain that hurts you, and pain that makes you stronger. All of your positivity is giving me strength.”

Evening Edition:

Zachary Levi, the star of the recently ended show Chuck, has landed the male lead on Fox’s Let It Go. The ensemble comedy revolves around a married couple as they try to navigate, negotiate and sometimes manipulate society’s unspoken rules. Casting for Levi’s wife is still going on. DJ Nash wrote the script and will serve as an Executive Producer alongside Rescue Me producer Peter Tolan and Michael Wimer.

J.K. Simmons, star of TNT’s The Closer, has been cast as Kyle Bornheimer’s father in the ABC comedy pilot White Van Man. The show is based on the British series of the same name, where a blue-collar guy is forced to put his dreams on hold in order to take over the family handyman business from his dad. Raising Hope writer Bobby Bowman wrote the script and will serve as an executive producer with Grey’s Anatomy producer Mark Gordon. Simmons, along with The Closer cast mate Corey Reynolds, will not be continuing their roles on the spin-off Major Crimes, which premieres late this summer.
