Ronkonkoma, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – From Ronkonkoma to to Lindenhurst, police have made arrests after holiday mail went missing from mailboxes.
During the past three weeks, several residents in Lindenhurst reported that packages that had been delivered and left in front of their homes had been stolen. After reviewing home surveillance footage, police arrested Colby Fiedler, 19 and Vincenzo Francese, 19, at Fiedler’s home at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday. The investigation revealed that the two men were in possession of five different delivery boxes that were addressed and delivered via United Parcel Service and the United States Postal Service to other individuals in the Lindenhurst area.
Both have been charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree. Francese was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
A lucky break for police in Ronkonkoma has put mail thieves behind the bars. Fourth Precinct officers Bartholomew Fitzsimons and Patricia Davis conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on Terry Road near Express Drive South in Islandia at 3 a.m. Wednesday after spotting a vehicle that matched the description of one that had been involved in a previously reported crime. The officers had been alerted that the occupants of this vehicle may have broken into another vehicle at Hanson Place in Ronkonkoma.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that the driver, Nancy Rodriguez, 26, and her passenger Gina Puma, 26, were in possession of numerous items that had been stolen from vehicles and mail boxes in the Ronkonkoma area recently.
The officers were able to recover a GPS device, car chargers, cell phones and approximately 100 pieces of mail, including checks.
Rodriguez and Puma, both of Farmingville, were each charged with 11 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree. They both will be held overnight and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on December 21.
