Shirley, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police today arrested two people for burglarizing an occupied home in Shirley early this morning.

A man and woman knocked on the door of the home located at 1451 William Floyd Parkway at approximately 3:30 a.m. and when the resident unlocked the door, the two forced open the door and entered the residence.

The female, who was armed with a stun gun, engaged the resident in a physical confrontation, and shocked the resident with the stun gun several times. The resident attempted to flee from the home and in the process struggled with the man, who had taken a bag from the home. The suspects then fled in a vehicle with the bag.

The resident gave responding officers a description of the suspects and identified the man as someone known to her and identified him by his first name as well as a nickname. Police Officer Thomas Daley believed he was familiar with the male suspect and responded to a recent address for the man on Emerson Road in Shirley where both the man and woman were arrested.

Seventh Squad detectives charged Jose Hernandez and Desiree Lennon each with one count of Burglary 1st Degree and one count of Robbery 2nd Degree. Lennon was additionally charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.

Hernandez, 20, of 10 Emerson Road, and Lennon, 36, of 282 Forest Road West, Mastic Beach, will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 22.

(A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.)
