West Babylon, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – Suffolk County Police today arrested a North Bellmore man for driving while intoxicated after he was driving the wrong way on the westbound Sunrise Highway service road in West Babylon early this morning.
Bogdan Mychajlyszyn was driving his 2007 Dodge van eastbound on the westbound Sunrise Highway service road when his vehicle struck a westbound 1998 Mazda. Mychajlyszyn continued to travel eastbound on the westbound Sunrise Highway service road between Straight Path Road and Little East Neck Road. First Precinct police officers responded to 911 calls and located the vehicle, which was traveling at a reduced rate of speed on westbound Sunrise Highway. Mychajlyszyn had reversed course and entered the highway traveling in the right direction.
Mychajlyszyn, 43, of 2296 Garfield St., North Bellmore, was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. He is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on December 29.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
