Nesconset, NY (SmithtownRadio.com) – New York State gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio was in town today to address local business owners. In a special meeting of the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce, held at the Watermill catering facility, Lazio spoke of his campaign to replace David Patterson in Albany.

Lazio, a republican, is pushing for reform in the state. He sees his three main principles as: getting order to the financial situation of the state, returning to job creation and returning integrity to the state.

The former prosecutor says he will eliminate some working positions in the state government while increasing the productivity of the remaining staff. If elected, Lazio says he will place all new state employees on 401K programs to phase out the current pension system. Those already employed by the state would be encouraged to switch to the 401K program.

In a push for accountability and transparency, Lazio says his government would post quarterly fiscal goals and progress reports to the Web for all to see. The NY State government has lived beyond its means for over a decade. When the economy boomed, we spent nearly every tax dollar and then borrowed more,” says Lazio on his Web site.

Lazio, originally from West Islip, says he is ready to be held accountable and ready to deal with protestors and others who oppose his views. “I’m signed up… I’m up to it,” says Lazio, who was meet by a small crowd of protestors before his address.

Overall, Lazio wants people to be proud of their state. He’s pushing to curtail the number of people leaving the state and working to boost the moral of residents. “I want people to be proud of New York again,” said Lazio.
